For his Thrill Jockey debut, and overall third solo album, former Cul de Sac member Glenn Jones holed up in his Boston apartment with producer Reuben Son. The resulting sessions yielded The Wanting, a collection of compositions for guitar and banjo, played in Jones' John Fahey-inspired finger picked style. Jones used the opportunity to experiment with different variations of open tuning, and decided to close the album with the 17-minute "The Orca Grande Cement Factory At Victorville," a collaboration with drummer Chris Corsano, who Jones met at the 2003 Brattleboro Free Folk Festival.
