Canadian blog-house darlings Junior Boys are among the few heavily hyped acts of the 2000s to translate word-of-mouth web-buzz into critical and cult success. Their 2004 debut, LAST EXIT, a gorgeously crafted blend of cold wave synth-pop and post-drum & bass rhythmic science, strikes the perfect balance between elegant New Romantic style melancholia and futuristic stutter-funk la producers Timbaland and Todd Edwards. While LAST EXIT's primary modus seems to be cleverly crafted pastiche, its undeniable pleasures lie primarily in the ability to fuse the familiar and forward-looking within its scintillating arctic-swept grooves.
