On his debut solo album, ENGLABORN, Icelandic composer Johann Johannsson, best known as a founder of the Kitchen Motorsart collective, presents a gorgeous set of string-and-piano-led pieces that were created to complement a stage play of the same name. Sad and lovely, the chamber-music aesthetic that Johannsson has meticulously established is occasionally altered by the presence of heavily treated vocals (see "Odi Et Amo") or programmed beats ("Salfraeoingur"), resulting inan inventive and elegiac record.
