Gonjasufi was thrust into our ears thanks to “Testament” off Flying Lotus’s amazing Los Angeles. Over a beat that floated through the far reaches of space, Gonjasufi laid down eerie vocals that sounded more like an instrument than singing. Although they were slightly jarring, his vocals complemented FlyLo’s beat perfectly. “Testament” was more than just a slick album cut. It was a preview of what was to come from Gonjasufi. He signed with Warp, a nice fit for sure, and began prepping A Sufi and a Killer. While many of its tracks have been around in one form or another, this represents the proper debut for this bearded mystical crooner. And it features plenty of spacey, funky beats from FlyLo, the Gaslamp Killer, and Mainframe.
